Harpers Ferry is visually stunning, set amid mountainous terrain carved into ridges and peninsulas by two mighty rivers that coalesce into one course. The confluence site is the ancestral home and sacred meeting place of the Tuscarora and Shawnee people. In 1859, Harpers Ferry set the scene for John Brown’s infamous abolitionist uprising. It later became the site of significant Civil War battles and the birthplace of the Niagara Movement, the precursor to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The unique landscape is visible from elevated positions, such as Loudoun Heights (pictured here) across the Potomac in Virginia. Accessible via a strenuous, 6 to 7.6-mile out-and-back hike, the trail rewards hikers with a secluded trek through hardwood forests and panoramic views of the town, the Potomac River, and the Shenandoah River from the iconic "Split Rock" overlook. A hand-rendered illustration styled after the vintage poster art of the 20th century, this design is available as a poster, framed print, metal sign, canvas, or as a set of notecards or postcards. This original national park art and travel art would look great on any wall in the home, or at the workplace. For a full list of sites managed by the National Park Service in all 50 states and U.S. territories, check out the official website for the National Park Service.
